Who is eligible for the PBwiki Back to School Challenge?
Teachers, librarians, and other educators.
Why did I get an email asking me to join the Back To School Challenge?
The PBwiki Back to School Challenge is a way to help give away $25 million in free collaborative software away to educators.
If you received an email from a colleague, it means they're trying to win a free Gold Premium wiki upgrade (value: $250) for their classroom. By joining, you'll be able to create your own PBwiki and earn points to win a free Premium upgrade for your classroom, too. Plus we're giving away other great gifts, like a $1,000 school supply shopping spree, and books and educational products from donors like LEGO Education.
Why did I get an email inviting me to create a free PBwiki?
If you received an email from a colleague, it means they're trying to win a free Gold Premium wiki upgrade (value: $250) for their classroom. If just four of the people invited create wikis, your colleague will win a free upgrade. Creating a PBwiki is 100% free. Give it a shot!
How do I get a free wiki?
You will get a free Gold Premium wiki upgrade after you earn 100 points in the Back-to-School Challenge.
What happens at the end of one year?
Your free wiki is a one-year gold wiki upgrade. At the end of this year, you'll be sent an email to decide how you'd like to proceed:
If you choose not to pay for your wiki, it will revert to the free version.
However, we're planning to make the Back to School Challenge an annual event, so you will get a chance to earn a free renewal of your Gold status.
How much do you charge to use PBwiki district-wide?
We host hundreds of thousands of educators on PBwiki, including districts and universities. Please contact our sales team (sales@pbwiki.com) for pricing.
Why are you doing this?
This is the year of collaboration, and wikis are a great way to use technology your classroom. Your students will learn to collaborate with their classmates, learn to approach projects in new and innovative ways, and venture into the web 2.0 world.
Wikis also offer a way to collaborate across the traditional barriers that separate the classroom and the home (invite the parents to join the wiki!), or between students across the world.
We hope this challenge will encourage the educator community to discover, innovate, and explore wiki technology.
Do I need to create a new account?
No - unless you don't already have a PBwiki Account. PBwiki Accounts are a new login system we introduced in 2006. If you created your wiki before this time, you may need to create a PBwiki Account by going to my.pbwiki.com.
How many wikis are you giving away?
As many as it takes! Our goal is to give away 100,000 gold wikis to the educator community, but we won't stop there!
Can I get more than 1 free wiki?
Sure, you can create a reasonable number of free wikis, but we encourage you to focus on one or two. After all, what good are 10 wikis if nobody uses them?
How do I get my free wiki once I win?
Once you win the free wiki, we'll send you an email. This email contains a link that allows you to upgrade the wiki of your choosing
How to I quit the Back to School Challenge?
Simply do nothing and your wiki will not be upgraded.
Can I apply my free upgrade to an existing wiki, or do I need to create a new wiki?
You can apply to an existing wiki or a new wiki.
How does my referral link work?
You can give your referral link to friends, family, and colleagues. If they create a wiki using this link, you will be credited extra points!
My question wasn't answered here. Where can I get more help?
PBwiki Support is ready to help you out! Just use the "Help" link located at the top right of your wiki page to browse our user manual or send an email to support. We look forward to hearing from you.
